About the role:
As a Fraud Investigator, you will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of suspected fraud matters from initial referral through to conclusion. The span of work for this role covers both Rochford District Council and Brentwood Borough Council.
The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist investigative skills while contributing to the Councils' commitment to good governance and protecting public money.
You will:
- Conduct investigations into allegations of fraud and irregularity.
- Gather, analyse and present evidence from a range of sources.
- Carry out interviews and statements in accordance with relevant legislation and best practice.
- Prepare high-quality reports, recommendations and case files.
- Work closely with colleagues, partner organisations and enforcement agencies where appropriate.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to managers and services on fraud prevention and detection.
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and proactive counter fraud initiatives.
- Support awareness campaigns and training to help strengthen the Council's counter fraud culture.
About you:
We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, analytical and committed to delivering high standards of investigation.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of undertaking investigations, compliance work, audit activity, enforcement or a similar analytical role.
- Strong report writing and case management skills.
- The ability to assess information objectively and make sound evidence-based decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The confidence to deal with challenging and sensitive situations professionally.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Good IT skills, including experience of researching and analysing information from a range of systems.
Ideally, you'll also have knowledge of counter fraud legislation, investigative techniques and evidential standards, although training and development opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
